CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: Join Santa’s parade into town

1 min read

With just months away from the most wonderful time of year, expressions of interest are being sought for involvement in Strathalbyn’s much-loved Christmas event.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, thousands of people will turn out for the 46th annual Christmas Where The Angas Flows, family-friendly event, at the Soldiers Memorial Gardens in December.

Various family-friendly activities on Friday, December 16, include a parade and market, which, for the first time, will be organised by Strath Neighbourhood Centre.

“It’s the last day of school, people pick up their kids and they hang around town waiting for the parade,” centre Chair Norma Keily said.

“They get their possie in the grounds by the riverbank so they can watch the concert.”

Local organisations and community members interested in getting involved, such as having a float in the parade, having a stall, volunteering or sponsoring, are encouraged to make enquiries now.

Mrs Keily is excited the centre can be further involved in the community.

“We want to raise our profile in the community as an organisation,” she said.

Strath Neighbourhood Centre manager, Mal Sutcliffe, is excited the parade puts the organisation’s reach further into the town.

“I think it shows a maturity for our organisation, because it’s a major event,” he said.

“With us to take on this role, I think it shows we’re ready for more.

“It means we can become involved in our core job, which is reaching out and connecting to the community.

“For me, I’m excited.”
