Bones found at Strathalbyn identified

1 min read

A report will be prepared for the Coroner after an investigation found bones discovered at Strathalbyn earlier this year are likely to be ancient Aboriginal remains.

As previously reported in The Southern Argus, Hills Fleurieu police and forensic investigators were called to Paris Creek Road on June 9 after reports bones were found on the side of the road.

Local detectives and forensic investigators attended and searched the area, with assistance from STAR Group officers, Major Crime investigators, State Emergency Service volunteers, and local patrols, but found no further remains.

The suspected human bones were sent off for forensic testing, with radio carbon dating indicating they are likely to be ancient Aboriginal remains.

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner to enable the remains to be returned to the Department for Aboriginal Heritage for reburial in accordance with Aboriginal heritage guidelines.
