Langhorne Creek has launched a new-look program for its 2023 winter festival, ‘Cellar Treasures: 10 Days of Treasures’, including a huge line-up of indulgent, immersive and illuminating experiences for all ages.
With over 40 diverse events from more than 10 different wineries, this year’s wine festival will span over two weekends with some fun in between.
The line-up includes live music in an airfield hangar, an all-ages light show, vineyard walks with some of Australia’s best winemakers and, of course, the chance to taste the region’s most rare and museum wines over 10 days.
Traditionally, the annual Cellar Treasure’s festival has been an event for avid wine connoisseurs, but this year, organisers from Langhorne Creek Grape and Wine Inc (LCGW) have created a program which encourages anyone who enjoys food, wine, events and fun to get involved.
LCGW Executive Chair and award-winning Lake Breeze winemaker, Greg Follett said the region produces some of the world’s best wine from innovative wine brands, and changes to Cellar Treasures means more people can experience that.
“Langhorne Creek already has a global reputation for our excellence in producing great Cabernet and Malbec, but we’re doing much more. The ‘10 Days of Treasures’ program will open up our cellar doors to people keen to explore new tastes and new immersive wine experiences,” Greg says.
“What I particularly love about the 2023 Cellar Treasure’s program is it blends the old with the new.
“It pays homage to what we love about Langhorne Creek’s history, and also celebrates and embraces the new varieties we’re becoming known for like Fiano, Grenache and even Prosecco.”
A winner of the region’s Project 5255 initiative, winemaker, Kate Horstmann (of SA’s boutique XO Wine Co) is one of the younger faces of Langhorne Creek wine, and has fallen in love with its produce and people.
“Put simply, Langhorne Creek is producing some of the best wine and grapes in Australia, and the region has always been very humble in how they celebrate their expertise, but this needs to change,” Kate says.
“This place, produce, people and now – events – should be a highlight on the South Australian wine calendar, and the new Cellar Treasure’s program is the perfect way to experience this.
“The Cellar Treasure’s team this year has created a brilliant blend of events so that everyone can relax, have fun, and enjoy some new and favourite wines at the same time.
“While families can explore the free light show and event at the Hangar, the serious wine-lovers can meet the producers or book in for a more intimate tasting experience.”
